The Borgen Project: Outreach Strategy

Employer: The Borgen Project

Project: Get four media outreach materials published

Key Skills: Writing skills, research skills and time management

I created an outreach strategy to create awareness about The Borgen Project. My plan included creating a variety of outreach materials such as letters to the editor and feature stories. I sent these materials to various journalists and media channels in the Salt Lake valley.

I have had three letter to the editors published in the print and online editions of the Deseret News and Salt Lake Tribune. I also created a feature story that was posted on Medium, a blogging platform for articles.

The Borgen Project: Fundraising

An advocate flyer I mailed to my family with a letter asking them to donate.

Employer: The Borgen Project

Project: Fundraise $500

Key Skills: Writing skills, communication with donors and time management

I raised over $800 as a part of my internship with The Borgen Project. I sent out letters to family and friends, and offered my services to reach my goal of $500. I also followed up with those who received letters to remind them to donate. The fundraiser was also promoted on my personal social media accounts as a way to reach a wider audience.

Through communicating with donors and creating strong written materials I was able to reach my fundraising goal. The money I have raised will go to help The Borgen Project continue their mission of reducing absolute poverty.

Nonprofit PR Plan

Client: Salt Lake City nonprofit

Project: Create a PR plan to engage a younger audience

Key Skills: Filming, client and team communication, and problem solving

Programs: Adobe Premiere Pro

I worked with a team to make a PR plan for a nonprofit organization in Salt Lake City. We focused on engaging a younger audience to get them to come to the organization’s weekly classes. I created a testimonial video as a way to achieve this goal. To do this I filmed a class, interviewed dancers and edited the video in Adobe Premiere Pro. I also contributed to writing the final document that outlined what the organization could do to enhance their future PR work.

Throughout the process the client was pleased with the work we were creating. We accomplished our goal of creating a successful PR plan by creating engaging deliverables for the target audience.
